If you asked my friends and family to describe me, Morgan Slaven, you would probably get a variety of answers.
Some might start with the obsessions I have for the color blue or my F-150. Others might go straight for the jokes about my frizzy hair or my inability to walk normally in heels. They would probably tell you how they laughed when I first described to them my home in Weyers Cave, a "small town that you've never heard of," or the lessons I learned when I wrecked my dad's truck hauling hay a few summers ago. Many would say how much I love my routine conversations with my grandparents every Sunday and Thursday night, and how much my brother, sister and I look alike.
They might even tell you how I tell jokes that no one ever laughs at.
However, anyone who has ever met me could tell you about my passion for agriculture and rural life - because I'll tell anyone who will listen. They will say, without a doubt, how proud I am to be the 6th generation to live on my family's beef cattle farm.
They will probably tell you that I'm crazy for trying to double major in Agricultural Sciences (with focuses in Animal Science and Leadership & Social Change) and Communication in 4 years while being an active member of several campus organizations, working for Virginia FFA as the State Officer Coordinator, and managing Virginia AGvocates: Youth Advocating for Agriculture as the Program Director. But then again, they would probably tell you that its good that I stay so busy - it keeps me out of trouble.
These descriptions would all be true, but I guess what is most important to know about me is that I don't focus on the person I was yesterday, or even the person I am today. Instead, I focus on the person I strive to be tomorrow and the path that God leads me down that will get me there.
